Construction of the Civil Engineering aspects required to facilitate the installation of the superstructure for the new 132kVA substation. The new substation was required ready for the acceptance of power generated from the Burbo Bank offshore windfarm.
The works involved:
- Demolition of the existing electrical substation structures and remediation of the site
- Location, diversion and protection of existing cables running through the site
- Excavation to a firm strata level identified at c3.5m deep and casting of mass concrete foundations to ground level
- Construction of reinforced concrete foundations onto the mass concrete and installation of holding down bolts ready for acceptance of the new electrical pylons, gantries and equipment
- Installation of concrete cable troughs and cable ducting between the existing live substation and new substation
- Construction of a reinforced concrete retaining wall to enable acquisition of land to extend the site footprint boundary
- Construction of vehicle access roads around the site
- Installation of new security fencing around the new substation facility
