Bridge Repairs Completed After Vehicle Strike
Road Closure and Aqueduct Bridge Beam Replacement
Our team were called into action when a high vehicle recently damaged the bridge beam across Barton Lane, Eccles where a canal aqueduct passes above the road.
To minimise disruption the required road closure was put in place whilst the new beam and access equipment were being transported to site, in a coordinated time-sensitive plan.
Once everything was on site and ready, the new made-to-measure beam was carefully lifted into place and secured by our skilled team. Next the additional cables were secured across the length of the span.
Having a cherry-picker on site meant that a detailed inspection of the aqueduct could be undertaken by the Bridgewater Canal Company’s own surveyor. On completion, an additional height restriction sign was attached to the beam to give drivers one last opportunity to see the hazard, before all equipment was removed and the roads fully opened.
The aqueduct is now protected again, securing the canal’s passage over this busy road and safeguarding local residents and businesses from potential damage.
